Local SEO: the basics of showing up on Google Maps
If customers find you through “near me” searches, your Google Business Profile may matter even more than your website.
Sample contentFor businesses that serve customers at a physical address, such as clinics, restaurants, repair services and shops, a large share of searches happen on the map. Ranking well there depends less on a big ad budget and more on a handful of things done properly and consistently.
A complete profile
Your business name, category, address, phone number, opening hours and website all need to be complete and accurate. The primary category matters most: pick the one that best describes your business and add secondary categories where they fit.
The same details everywhere
Your address and phone number should be written exactly the same way on your website, your social accounts and directory listings. Even small differences reduce how much Google trusts your information.
Reviews and replies
Make asking happy customers for a review a habit, and make it easy with a short message and a direct review link. Reply briefly and politely to every review, positive or negative. Your replies are a signal of trust for everyone else reading your profile.
Regular updates
Sharing new photos, announcements and offers shows that your profile is active. A few updates a month is enough for most businesses.
Connecting it to your website
If you have several locations, give each its own page on your website and link each profile to that page. Include the address, a map, opening hours and anything specific to that branch.
None of these steps works miracles on its own. Done together and consistently, they make a visible difference to your map rankings within a few months.
